The History Of The Reformation In The Sixteenth Century by J. H. Merle D’Aubigné D. D. from the third Fench Edition, published by Blackie & Son, Glasgow, Edinburgh & London 1846, Rare Emerald Edition, Printed by Glasgow, W.G. Blackie And Co., Printers. Volumes I and II in one book. Volume I has all 341 pages including contents and preface and the original books first to eighth. Volume II has all 410 pages including contents and preface and the original books ninth to sixteenth. The book is possibly rebound in half leather and blue marbled boards. The spine has four wide raised bands with gilt decoration and beween the top two bands is gilt lettering of the title still bright. The corners and edges of the leather are rubbed. The binding is relatively tight and the joints and hinges are good. There is a black and white frontis piece entitled ‘Luther in his Study’, then a tissue guard with some foxing, and then the title page with a black and white illustration entitled ‘The Wartburg, page 286’. Internally the print block pages are clean and unfoxed. At the bottom of the front paste down endpaper is a small sticker for the mid-19th-century bookseller T. D. Thomson who operated from 13, Upper King Street, Russell Square, in London.
