Description
The series “Twelve Historic Views of Edinburgh” was a popular collection of prints produced by Millar & Lang, Ltd. (M&L Ltd), a Glasgow-based art publisher, based on original drawings by the Scottish artist Andrew Allan (1863-1940). Andrew Allan was a trained lithographic artist from the Glasgow School of Art known for his fine brushwork and innovative printing techniques. While often associated with the mezzo-tint process for its soft, tonal qualities, many of these M&L Ltd views were specifically marketed as being produced via a “New Color-crayon Process” that imitated the appearance of wax crayons.
