Description

The series “Twelve Historic Views of Edinburgh” was a popular collection of prints produced by Millar & Lang, Ltd. (M&L Ltd), a Glasgow-based art publisher, based on original drawings by the Scottish artist Andrew Allan (1863-1940). Andrew Allan was a trained lithographic artist from the Glasgow School of Art known for his fine brushwork and innovative printing techniques. While often associated with the mezzo-tint process for its soft, tonal qualities, many of these M&L Ltd views were specifically marketed as being produced via a “New Color-crayon Process” that imitated the appearance of wax crayons. Card covers with embossed illustration and title on front cover. String binding. Twelve drawings tipped in and protected with tissue page with title and description.
